It’s that lovely time of the year again, when you have to put your imagination at work to get the perfect gifts to your family, friends and Secret Santa at work. No worries, we’re here to help. Check this selection of this year’s #bugleTeamTips for that extra dose of Christmas inspiration.
Every week, on Friday, we share an awesome tip from a member of the bugle team, in our social media channels (by the way, don’t forget to follow us on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter). The #bugleTeamTips are personal recommendations that can be anything, from apps to films, and with the great number of avid readers in the bugle team… yes, we end up with tons of book suggestions.
As you cannot go wrong with a great book, here are the top bugle team’s book suggestions this year:
"A Gentleman in Moscow", by Amor Towles, soon to be a TV series, this novel offers humour, great characters and an amazing narrative – suggested by our CEO João.
“This is Going to Hurt”, by Adam Kay, a funny page-turner book suggestion. When you start reading it, you won't be able to put it down – my own suggestion.
“Uncanny Valley”, by Anna Wiener, a page-turning memoir of Silicon Valey life from the perspective a tech-industry worker – suggested by Ana Silva.
“How To Talk So Kids Can Learn”, by Adele Faber, Rosalyn Anstine Templeton, and Elaine Mazlish, a book that helps you to communicate better with kids – suggested by Leandro.
“Everything is F*cked: A Book About Hope”, by Mark Manson, a book with a mix of enlightenment and humour – suggested by Diana.
“The Long Take”, by Robin Robertson, winner of the Goldsmiths Prize 2018 – another great suggestion by our CEO João, our team’s most avid reader with an average of books read per year I would love to beat.
“Bare Minimum Parenting: The Ultimate Guide to Not Quite Ruining Your Child”, by James Breakwell, a witty and refreshing perspective on parenting – suggested by Ana Luísa.
Moving on to another popular type of Christmas gifts, games, here are two suggestions:
Dobble, a card game that’s great to spend some quality time with family and friends – suggested by Ana Luísa.
Sly the Spire, a card game meets rogue-likes in a single player deck builder game – suggested by João Magalhães.
Throughout the year, we also had a lot of films, TV series and documentary suggestions from different members of the bugle team. As you may image, you can watch most of them in Netflix or HBO, so, why not offer a subscription to one of these streaming services, where your family and friends can watch great content such as:
The Two Popes, a fantastic movie, suggested by Francisca, with great actors, about the friendship of Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis (Netflix).
Peaky Blinders, a TV series created by Steven Knight that takes place in the 1920s in Birmingham and follows the Shelby crime family, suggested by Carina.
Chernobyl, a mini-series that received great reviews and won 10 Emmy awards, about one of the world's worst catastrophes, suggested by me. (HBO)
The Kominsky Method, a funny Netflix series about ageing with Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin, suggested by Inês.
The Social Dilemma, a Documentary with a closer look at the human impact of social networking, suggested by Diana.
From the techie world, if you want to impress the Techie person in your life, you can’t go wrong with the HyperX Cloud Gaming Headset, suggested by Flávio, or a Wireless Mechanical Keyboard KeychronK2, suggested by Ana Silva.
If you’re looking for sustainable gifts, we also have a couple of suggestions that will resonate with someone in your life: a beautiful and fragrant piece of nature from Algarve that will be perfect for any home – the Citrina Plants, suggested by Ivo's, or beautiful small pieces of home garden with Lisa’s suggestion Life in a Bag.
Last, but not least, you are likely to need a comfortable, ergonomic chair so you can sit comfortably and with better posture, while shopping for the Christmas presents from your computer, or just in case you get distracted with one of the film or series suggestion above: the Gesture by Steelcase office chair, suggested by Flavio.
There are tons of wonderful, funny and useful gifts to exchange on Christmas, including the free awesome ones like hugs. But, especially this year, make sure you offer the best gifts of all them all: stay safe and healthy, and do your part to keep your family, friends and community safe and healthy as well.
Happy Holidays, from the bugle team!
